戦時中、朝鮮人は日本人でした。そして大日本帝国の成員として生きたのです。Duri­ng the war, the Korean people were Japanese citizens, and were willing and 
able participants in the Japanese Empire.　

それなのに一転して被害者になろうと彼らが決意したのは戦争直後のことです。
It is after the war that they decided that they were victims, and switched roles.

その上、自分たちの国である韓国では、売春婦たちが権利を主張してデモを起こしていま­す。
And even in their own country, Korea, women are demonstrating for their right to be prostitutes.　

それなのに韓国人は日本を売春の罪で告発するのでしょうか？
Yet they accuse Japan of a crime?

もう少し詳しく説明しましょう。
Let me explain.

アメリカ合衆国は個人の人権を重んじる国です。　
America is a country that treasures human rights for the individual.

とくに世界中の女性の権利についてアメリカ人は関心をもっています。
And in particular, the rights of women world wide are a concern for Americans.

ですから「慰安婦」を「性奴隷」という言葉に呼び変えると、アメリカでは大きな反響を­ひき起こします。
When people use the term "Sex Slave" to describe the Comfort Women, it resonates in the United States.

しかし、それらの女性達（慰安婦）はほんとうに奴隷だったのでしょうか？
But were these women indeed slaves?

いいえ、ちがいます。
No.

　まず、これは残念なことですが、日本でも朝鮮でも戦前、娘を身売りするのはよくおこな­われていたことでした。
First of all, as distasteful as it may seem, it was common in both Japan and Korea pre war to sell daughters into prostitution.　

貧しい家庭にとって家族全員が生きてゆくにはそれしか方法がなかったのです。
For poor families with too many mouths to feed, this was the only option.

慰安婦に関していえば、給与が払われていました。
As far as the comfort women were concerned, they were paid.

（朝鮮人慰安婦の）斡旋業者はすべて朝鮮人でした。　
The recruiters were all ethnic Koreans.

（性奴隷ときくと）大日本帝国軍が朝鮮の村々から泣き叫ぶ朝鮮人女性を無理やり連行し­ているイメージを思い浮かべてしまいます。
People have conjured up an image of the Imperial Japanese Army rampaging through Korean villages, and hauling off screaming women.

しかしそんな事実はまったくありませんでした。
This never happened.

A "Korean　comfort girl" is nothing more than a prostitute or "professional camp follower"   2014/4/15(火) 

この１９９４年８月の米軍心理作戦チームの報告書によると、韓国従軍慰安婦は、日本軍による強制連行ではなく、単なる売春婦、又は日本軍についてまわる従軍慰安売春婦以外の何者でもないと述べている。
