それを私は知らなかった。

この詩は、アメリカのノーマ コーネット マレック という女性が、わが十歳の息子を亡くしたときに書いたものです。
自分の息子が川で溺れた友達を助けるために川に飛び込んで亡くなりました。
その息子に捧げる詩です。
平和のためにこの詩が使われるなら、ご自由にということで、今でも世界中でこの詩は読まれているとのことです。

If I knew it would be the last time

I would tuck you in more tightly
and pray the Lord, your soul to keep.
